Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 808 Hexa-core and 810 Octa-core 64 bit processors

Just weeks after launching the Snapdragon 801 processor, Qualcomm has now launched another two new mobile processors – the Snapdragon 808 and Snapdragon 810.Qualcomm has announced two new smartphone processors – the Snapdragon 808 and Snapdragon 810, both of which have a 64 bit architecture, thus making them ideal for the ensuing trend of 64 bit smartphones. Both the chips are manufactured using the 20nm process and as such are apparently lighter, smaller and consume less power.

Snapdragon 810 is a 64 bit octa core processor and is powered by four Cortex A57 and four Cortex A53, with the former cores taking care of intensive tasks and the latter cores handling moderate tasks. The processor comes with the Adreno 430, which 30 percent faster than Snapdragon 805’s GPU. The chipset has support for 4K Ultra HD, 4K video encoding at 30 frames per second and image sensors of up to 55 MP.


The Snapdragon 808 is a 64 bit hexa core processor and is powered by two Cortex A57 cores and four Cortex A53 cores. The processor has the Adreno 418, which is 20 percent faster than Adreno 330. The chipset has support for 2K display.

While both the processors are expected to hit the market in the later half of 2014, devices powered by these processors are expected only in 2015. Quite a few high-end flagship models are expected to use the Snapdragon 810.
Speaking about the new processors, Murthy Renduchintala, executive vice president, Qualcomm Technologies, said, “The announcement of the Snapdragon 810 and 808 processors underscore Qualcomm Technologies’ continued commitment to technology leadership and a time-to-market advantage for our customers for premium tier 64-bit LTE-enabled smartphones and tablets,”
